Custom furniture is about form and function coming together to present beautiful and bespoke pieces to suit your individual needs and environments.
For over 30 years, COMAX has been working with the Australian design community interpreting ideas, exploring form and experimenting with a myriad of substrates, finishes and textures to create truly unique, high quality pieces for commercial and residential spaces.
Australian owned and based in Brisbane, COMAX furniture designers service local, national and international clients through standard and bespoke commissions.
COMAX has a short 6-8 week lead time; which means you don’t have to wait for 3-6 months for a furniture piece from overseas. We’re able to accommodate short lead times, with any changes to your project, and complete customisation from concept to finished product.

Process
Design
We have our own in house furniture designers who will collaborate and work closely with you to create and build a shop drawings to bring your ideas to life.
All we need is an idea, a picture, a drawing or a plan.
Once your designs have been confirmed we move on to prototyping.

Prototyping
The next step in our process is were we make the frame, we line up the timber frame in foam.
The Designer can then come out with their client for an inspection. Once this is approved we then proceed to upholstery.

Upholstery Workshop
We now begin the soft finishes cutting the fabric, sewing, upholstering and finishes such as buttoning or piping.

Wood Workshop
In our wood workshop we use solid wood, Veneers and Laminates to buil or frames, tables and cabinets.

CNC Machinery
Our 5 axis router CNC is fully computerised machine designed and manufactured in Italy specifically for the furniture industry.
It uses 2D and 3D CAD models to machice cut the parts. It allow for competitive pricing and fast machining of complex parts. It also allows precise cutting for large amounts as well as individual one of pieces

In our metal workshop we fabricate with a variety of metals such as Stainless, Aluminium, Steel and Brass.

This is were we finish off all our wood and metal.

We have a network of furniture removalists that will coorditnate your deliveries for your project.

Where needed we also offer assembly and installation of large custom pieces such as banquettes and cabinets.

Comax at Howard Smith Wharves — Comax furniture has featured in numerous projects at Brisbane’s historic landmark Howard Smith Wharves redevelopment. Including the modern and trend setting:
The Fantauzzo - Art Series Hotel
In this project the Comax creative team brought our clients vision to life.
Starting with an inspirational image.
We then collaborated to create this spectacular one-off custom banquette which flows through the foyer.
Aug 20 — 2020
Bespoke Large Quantity Production — Comax not only specializes in bespoke furniture but we also have the capacity and machinery to manufacture large quantity furniture with the same attention and care as they give bespoke one-off designs.
Comax uses the same process as they do with custom bespoke items for the prototype stage, once approved, production can run quantities that range up to 200. This ability allows the customer to receive a bespoke item that will stand out against mass-produced furniture.
